Top crypto hedge fund CEO says Bitcoin will reach 90% global adoption in 5 years
According to industry experts, Bitcoin will see 90% global adoption in just five years.
Roundtable host Rob Nelson raised the question of how long it will take for Bitcoin to become widely accepted and integrated into daily life.
“I don’t really have 50 years for this to happen. I’d like to see it happen in five in a perfect world,” Nelson said.
Brian Dixon, CEO of Off the Chain Capital, responded, saying, “Five years to your point, five years. Five years,” Dixon said. “I think we go from current adoption to 90% global adoption in the next five years. And if you follow historical S-curve, megatrends of adoption, that’s how it should play out.”
Dixon pointed to Bitcoin’s exponential growth rate, noting that it is following the same adoption curve as the internet — but at an even faster pace.
“The internet grew very quickly through a similar S-curve adoption. But now that we have the Internet, the adoption rate of crypto is growing exponentially faster than the Internet’s adoption rate itself. So because of that, we can distribute through mobile devices and computing devices around the world at an exponentially quicker rate. So that’s my prediction.”
Bitcoin’s price discovery
Dixon also addressed Bitcoin’s ongoing volatility, arguing that major price fluctuations are part of the natural price discovery process.
“In 2017, Bitcoin reached new all-time highs throughout those 12 months, but 11 different times it drew down 20% or more while still coming back and hitting a new all-time high. Through 2020 and 2021, the same thing occurred. Bitcoin reached a new all-time high, four different times it drew down 20% or more.”
He compared Bitcoin’s trajectory to the early days of the internet, noting how public perception shifts as adoption grows.
“Today, there’s a lot of people that still think Bitcoin’s worthless. I believe it’s priceless. And that’ll be proven out over time. And when we have 500 million people and then 800 million and then 2 billion people on the Bitcoin network, it becomes priceless and it gets integrated ubiquitously with our daily lifestyle.”
AI and Bitcoin’s acceleration
Kelly Kellam, Director at Bitlab Academy, believes that advancements in AI will accelerate Bitcoin’s adoption, pushing the network into its next phase of growth.
“Well, I mean, I think speaking to the speed of increase of how quick things are evolving now, even from 2009 with the advent of Bitcoin to where we’re at now, it took, what was it, like 13 years or something before we hit $20,000. And then now this cycle, we just had a seven-month range where we were oscillating $20,000 eight times in the matter of seven months.”
