New All-Time High for Bitcoin: Price Exceeds $109K as Trump Prepares for Inauguration
Bitcoin reached a new all-time high of $109,036 on Jan. 20, 2025, briefly surpassing its previous record of over $108,000 set in December 2024.
The crypto surged by more than 6% within minutes, coinciding with Donald Trump’s impending inauguration as the 47th president of the United States at 4:00 p.m. UTC.
At approximately 6:55 a.m.UTC, Bitcoin’s price spiked before quickly retreating to around $108,342. This surge has been linked to growing speculation about potential crypto policies under the Trump administration, particularly the establishment of a strategic Bitcoin reserve within the first 100 days of his presidency.
The increase in optimism surrounding Trump’s presidency has been identified as a key factor driving this bullish momentum in cryptocurrency markets.
Following Trump’s victory on Nov. 6, 2024, Bitcoin's value surged above $100,000 for the first time in early December.
Speculation regarding a U.S. Bitcoin reserve saw notable fluctuations on the crypto-based prediction platform Polymarket, where the odds climbed sharply to 69% just before the recent price peak. This increase occurred around 6:30 a.m. UTC, shortly before Bitcoin's rally.
In related news, Trump began selling his newly launched memecoin, Official Trump (TRUMP), on Jan. 18, just a day after its launch.
The token has reportedly experienced significant growth, potentially multiplying Trump’s net worth substantially.
